Update from the Elders Regarding COVID-19

Dear Northside Family and Friends,

Regathering Plans
As many of you know, we are prayerfully planning on resuming our in-person gatherings at Northside Baptist Church on Sunday, June 7th. Mayor Hogsett’s announcement yesterday is another positive step toward this happening. He is now permitting churches to hold services at 50% capacity starting on May 29th. We are not going to rush our first meeting and have decided to continue to pursue June 7th as our regathering date. Although we are excited to have a date on the calendar, we also know that we face challenges as we think through what our future gatherings will look like. We expect that our coming together, while full of joy to see each other, will be subdued and anti-climactic.

We are thankful for the recent guidance from our Mayor and Governor. We continue to look to the guidance they provide and based our decisions on their recommendations, in conversation with other local churches.

Welcome Back Video
Next week, we will release a video welcoming you back to the Northside building. Thing will look a little different around here for a while. So, in an effort to help you acclimate to these new policies and parameters, this video will walk you through our building and give you a first-person view on how you will be directed into and out of the building, and how to navigate our facilities with new social distancing parameters in place.

Future Plans
Some of you have asked when we expect to begin to permit our small groups and other Sunday School ministries to gather on the premises again. We have decided to use a phased approach to our reopening, similar to how our local government and businesses are reopening. In this initial phase, in which we reopen only for worship service from 10:30 am to 12 pm, we are focusing on our ability to comply with social distancing recommendations. As we grow more comfortable in that ability over the next several weeks, and as our government leaders continue to loosen restrictions, we expect that we will have a clearer picture of when our other ministries will restart gathering in the building.

We believe that “plans fail when there is no counsel, but with many advisers they succeed,” and that we ought to “finalize plans with counsel...” (Prov. 15:22, 20:18). In light of this, we are planning to gather a group of ministry heads and small group leaders for a meeting to discuss how and when to recommence other ministries besides our worship service. We are planning for this meeting to take place in mid-June, with guidance to follow shortly afterwards.

We encourage you to continue to connect with each other on the Facebook group page or over the phone. We are beginning to see that Lord answer our prayer of “directing our way to you. (1 Thess. 3:11) Continue to pray for this!

In Christ,

Your Elders (Mike Bowman, John Reeder, Dennis Brooks, Jim Moran, and Nate Brock)
