Update from the Elders Regarding COVID-19
Dear Northside Family and Friends,
These have been difficult days. The violence and anger around our country, and even in our own city, are confusing and polarizing. All this unrest comes in the midst of a nationwide economic slowdown caused by the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The issues and challenges we face are complex and there are no easy answers. But let us encourage you to remember that God is on his throne and he will accomplish his purposes. He is not anxious or surprised by these events. May we humble ourselves under his hand and seek to understand what he is teaching us.
We are planning on having our first in-person gathering at church on June 7th at 10:30 am. Mayor Hogsett has said that churches can gather indoors at 50% capacity. So we invite you to make plans to join us! If you are part of the high-risk population (65 & older or have underlaying health conditions), we ask you consider staying home for the first few weeks. Additionally, if you have displayed any symptoms of illness (high, persistent fever, cough, etc…), we ask that you stay home and view the service on the livestream. We will be sending out a document and a video to help guide you through what our Sunday morning will look like. These resources will be uploaded to our various platforms (Facebook, website, emailed to members) on Friday, June 5th.
Other Northside Ministries
In these initial stages of reopening, the church building will only be reopened for Sunday morning worship gatherings. We are asking all of our small groups/Sunday school classes to delay their meeting until a later time. At this point, we are aiming for an early July resumption of those Sunday School hour and Wednesday night meetings. This goal does not apply to our regular Children’s Ministries, which will remain suspended until August. The elders are working on scheduling a meeting of the small group leaders and ministry heads to discuss the details of restarting the gathering of their respective groups and ministries on the church campus. This meeting will take place sometime in mid-June.
Our diligent and energetic VBS team (John Reeder, Janice Morrow, Barbara Cross, Carla Buggs-Huston, Danielle Root, Becky Holt, and Kathy Martine) has adjusted very well to the cancellation of our regular VBS programming in July. Instead of our regular VBS programming, the team is pursuing a modified VBS-like programming that will run on Wednesday nights in August. More details are forthcoming, and we ask you to pray for this team as they put these details together.
While our regathering will commence soon, we encourage you to continue to connect with each other on the Facebook group page or over the phone. It will be some time before things are truly “back to normal”.
Your Elders (Mike Bowman, John Reeder, Dennis Brooks, Jim Moran, and Nate Brock)
